Weigel Elem

Congratulations to Ann Weigel Elementary Principal Lori Riehle on being named
UC Economics Department Principal of the Year!

There was a BUZZ in the on January 10th, as we hosted Weigel's Annual Spelling Bee for the 23rd consecutive year!  Forty students were chosen to represent the 4th and 5th grades at our elementary school.  Family and friends gathered together to support these young o-r-t-h-o-g-r-a-p-h-e-r-s (spellers) in their quest for the Spelling Bee Championship.  Eight rounds later, two fifth graders went head-to-head to see who could outlast the other!  In the end, there is only one School Champion.  Daniel Graber was the Runner-Up to Gabe Gaither, who was able to spell "incessant" as the Championship Word and take first place.  Congratulations to these great competitors!  All spellers who represented our school in this event are to be commended for their hard work, determination, and best of all, good sportsmanship.  Fun was had by all!

Struble Elem

Struble Elementary has some great news to share! Several of our Grade 2 students, under the direction and guidance of Mrs. Jessica Yelton and Mrs. Lisa Hadley, recently led an assembly for all students and staff to share the culmination of a twelve-week project. The "Kindness Kickoff" assembly showcased the work of the various student-led project groups: weekly announcements and challenges, hallways posters, a play, chalk messages on the playground, a recess game, and story books. All of the activities demonstrated ways to show and spread kindness to each other in our school and community. Our next step is to create a display board in the school, where each student and staff member will have the opportunity to share how he/she will spread kindness!

HELC
Houston Early Learning Center hosted their annual Time With Daddy Event. HELC preschool students and their dads (or significant male adult) enjoyed yummy cookies and doughnuts while making a  special craft together.
A special thank you to the teachers, assistants, Mrs. Obermeyer, Ms. Barb Moore, Mrs. Von Moore, Mrs. Von Allmen, and Mrs. Neuhaus and Mrs. Hostler for organizing this wonderful event!   Here are a few pictures to share:

Did you know that Mrs. Moore at Houston has over 70 different headband hats & she wears a different one each day depending on any holidays, events etc.  The kids & parents absolutely love her!  She will do anything you ask of her in a timely manner & with a smile on her face.
