"For the third year in a row, Nate's Toy Box is happy to present a new book to each 2nd grader in the Northwest Local School District area. The first portion of the 1000 books were delivered to Monfort Heights, Struble, Taylor, Welch, Colerain and Beautiful Savior today, before the kids go on Spring Break. Next week, books will be delivered to St. James, St. Ignatius, St. John, Our Lady of Grace and St. Bernard. A special thanks to our community for your continued support in memory of Nate Schroeder!"

Attached is the information regarding the ARC program that my students have been involved in over the school year and the upcoming Art Exhibition to celebrate their work.
Ms. McKeon took students to the Youth and Government conference at the Ohio Statehouse in Columbus. They acted as Representatives and Senators in the Legislative Branch as well as the Press Corps. These future leaders did an awesome job and represented the school so well.
Colerain High School Art Club students painting for Rain Barrel Art Project
Cincinnati, OH – Art Club students from Colerain High School have been selected to paint a rain barrel as part of the sixth annual Rain Barrel Art Project, an initiative designed to educate the community about water conservation and pollution caused by stormwater runoff.
The Rain Barrel Art Project is a joint effort of SaveLocalWaters.org and the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. As part of this initiative, students and other community members throughout the Ohio River Valley submitted artistic designs to beautify otherwise dull rain barrels. About 40 of those designs were selected, and the submitting artists now are painting them on rain barrels that will be displayed at the Cincinnati Zoo’s Go Green Garden through April and will be auctioned the off during the Online Rain Barrel Art Benefit Auction between April 9 and 19, 2018. The e-bay platform will be used to accept bids on the barrels.
“Rain barrels are a great tool for conserving water and saving money, but some people are reluctant to use them because of their usually plain, unappealing appearance,” said John Nelson, a representative of SaveLocalWaters.org and a public relations specialist. “We believe that turning rain barrels into beautiful works of art will make them more desirable, so we’re pleased to collaborate on this event to raise awareness and encourage the use of rain barrels throughout the region.”
The Art Club students from Colerain High School were selected to paint a rain barrel for this year’s event. The participating students from grade[s] 9-12 are working under the leadership of Mrs. Jennifer Newman, Art Teacher and Art Club Advisor at Colerain High School. The Art Club voted on the winning design, which was created by Junior, Sarah Cappell. Sarah volunteers at the Cincinnati Zoo and has a huge passion for reptiles, thus creating “Reptile Refuge”. Multiple colorful reptiles are seen surrounded by a safe, lush habitat.
The auction will end on April 19, 2018, during the zoo’s Party for the Planet event, with proceeds benefiting conservation education in the Ohio River Valley. “The zoo is thrilled to be hosting the rain barrel event once again. As the ‘Greenest Zoo in America,’ we are always looking for ways to inspire our community to take action that can impact the environment in positive ways,” said Sophia Turczynewycz, the zoo’s Sustainable Communities Advocate.

"World Down Syndrome Day was March 21st. Mrs. Bibb's class at Houston Early Learning Center celebrated March 22nd with PJ day and mismatched socks. Why the mismatched socks? The socks represent Down Syndrome. Even though the socks are different, they are still socks. Down Syndrome (Trisomy 21) is a chromosomal abnormality. Chromosomes hold our genetic information and individuals with Down Syndrome are born with three copies of the 21 chromosome. That is why Word Down Syndrome Day is celebrated 3/21. "
