Read Across America is celebrated each year on March 2nd and is sponsored by the National Education Association.  We had an amazing number of classrooms in all of our elementary buildings participate this year.  76 classrooms received a book and materials purchased through a grant your local association applied for and received from OEA.

Thank you to Ashley, teacher at Colerain Elementary, for purchasing the books/materials and organizing the program.

Welch Elementary had a fabulous Field Day last week! The weather was beautiful, the games were fun, and the volunteers were amazing! Thanks to Cindy Venuto for planning a great final Field Day! Thank you to the PTA for providing all the students lunch and volunteering for the day! We are lucky Panthers!

Nicholas Harper was elected as the 2018-19 BPA National Treasurer (taking over for Carlos Boyd, who served in that role last year).

Congrats to Audra Buckley for being nominated and chosen to be recognized at the May 21 Board meeting by the Northwest Educators Association for all of her work!

Middle Schools

On May 8th, over 100 middle school students from Northwest's three middle schools competed in the 2nd annual C-STEM Coding and Robotics Competition at Colerain Middle School.  Teams of six students worked together to complete fun coding challenges to earn as many point possible for their group.  This year the competition was very close with only 10 points separating the 1st and 2nd place team and with a total of 6 teams scoring only 25 points or less below the winning team.  The first place team was the C-STEM Knights (8th grade from PRMS), the second place team was the Chicken Nuggets (7th grade from CMS) and the third place team was the Golden Knights (7th grade from PRMS). Congratulations to all of our students that competed in this exciting competition!
