Congratulations to the CMS students who were selected to participate in the 2019 OMEA Junior High Honors Orchestra! Outstanding strings players from area middle schools are selected by their directors to represent their school in a weekend of rigorous, exciting music making.  This year the event took place at Princeton High School’s Matthews Auditorium on January 18 & 19.
Under the direction of guest conductor Stephanie Jones, our students experienced a top notch rehearsal and performance.  The program included: Peer Gynt Suite, The Tempest, Badinerie, Swashbuckler’s Saga, Midwinter Fantasy.
Colerain Middle Musicians:
Violins: Jaydee Lorenzo, Melissa Meija, Melinda Moeun, Nate Fox

For nearly a century, the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards have recognized the vision, ingenuity, and talent of our country's youth. Students in grades 7-12 in public, private, and home schools are encouraged to submit original works of art and writing.

Congratulations to Kaia Armstrong ('20), whose scratchboard piece "Lost In Ambition" was awarded a Silver Key Award! Kaia is currently in Jennifer Newman's Art 3 class. There will be an awards ceremony at The Art Academy of Cincinnati on February 1, 2019 to recognize this remarkable achievement.

Struble Elem

Kindergarten students in Mrs. Arents' class at Struble Elementary and in Mrs. Kuhlman's class at Pleasant Run Elementary have started a pen pal project. The students have written one letter so far, and were so excited to receive a letter from their new friends. They are looking forward to more fun to come throughout the rest of the year.

Taylor Elem

"Mrs. Silbernagel was Mrs. Muddiman's Secret Reader at Taylor Elementary and read, Ada Twist, Scientist, a book about a curious little girl who questions everything, which are great qualities of a good scientist."

Houston Early Learning Center celebrated the importance of partnering with parents/guardians for the overall development and success of NWLSD youngest students.

In Mrs. Bibb's class at Houston Early Learning Center students made a valentine box at home with their families and shared their boxes with the class on Valentines Day. During the schoolwide Valentine Celebration, students did marble painting, made 'flower arrangements,' and made patterns with conversation hearts. It was a pretty sweet day!

WOMS

On Friday (2/15), WOMS participated, once again, in the annual No One Eats Alone day.  This nationwide event, held each year, is designed to help decrease social isolation.  Special thanks to Janet Huneke for arranging for 40 student-athletes, along with two coaches, from CHS to join the WOMS students for lunch, with pizza provided to the high school students by Sean Ryan.  The WOMS students enjoyed lunch with different classmates and were excited to have the CHS there for lunch!

Abigail Woltz to Take Part in Envision’s Junior National Young

Leader’s Conference

Cincinnati OH  – This summer, Abigail Woltz from Cincinnati OH will
join outstanding middle school students from across the nation to take
part in a unique academic and career oriented development experience,
the Junior National Young Leader’s Conference, (JrNYLC) in Washington
D.C.

The Junior National Young Leader’s Conference is one of the Envision
family of programs (www.envisionexperience.com) that enable students
to explore their interests and experience learning beyond the
classroom.

Abigail was nominated by her chorus teacher at White Oak Middle
school, Mrs. Randie Parks. Abigail is very musically oriented, as she
is involved in chorus and orchestra during the school day. Abigail is
the only sixth grade lead in her school’s production of “You’re a Good
Man Charlie Brown”, in which she plays Sally Brown. Outside of school,
Abigail likes to hang out with her friends, drink starbucks, read, and
watch Netflix. She is excited to attend the JrNYLC, because she loves
learning about our nation’s history, and would like to learn how to be
a strong leader.

“As an alumna of Envision myself, I am excited for Abigail to meet,
work, and collaborate with other high-aspiring students from across
the country,” said Amanda Freitag Thomas, SVP for Envision. “Hands
down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with
motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our
assumptions, meet new people, and grow. Creating that same learning
environment is a central focus for all of our programs. At JrNYLC,
students build the confidence and skills needed to excel in high
school, college, and the workplace. They learn how to adapt to and
communicate in new situations, to new challenges, and with new people,
which, given how rapidly the world is changing due to technology and
innovation, are essential skills for success.”

Since 1985, Envision programs have served more than 800,000 students
in more than 145 countries, with programs designed to help students
develop the leadership, scholarship and career skills needed to
succeed in today’s competitive college and career landscape.
